Rise of the Runelords
The Surand family was one of the pioneering families that established Sandpoint. Exiles from the distant kingdom of Ellisaia, Lucien Surand was a skilled glassmaker who founded the Sandpoint Glassworks and quickly turned it into a thriving business. His son, Laumord, carried on his family’s proud work, and the Sandpoint Glassworks is perhaps the town’s most prosperous business, with its products regularly shipped as far as the heart of the empire. Yet for all of his success at business, Laumord’s family affairs foundered, due in no small part to his short temper. Most obvious was the elvish blood of his eldest son, Truavais; proof that his wife, Frensetta, had an affair with an unknown elf. His rage at the discovery of his wife’s indiscretion was the talk of the town for months.
On the Night of Nightmares, Laumord’s wife, Frensetta, awoke and then threw herself over the cliff edge outside the Surand manor and died on the jagged rocks below. Stoic in his grief, Laumord claimed her shame must have proved unbearable. Truavais was quite public, however, in his opinions that his father had pushed Frensetta off the cliff to her death. During the funeral there was a confrontation resulting in Laumord nearly breaking Truavais’ jaw with his cane. Cursing his father, Truavais left Sandpoint and has not been seen since. His daughter, Aledae, shamed him not only by becoming an adventurer, but by opening and running a tavern and flop-house, The Rusty Dragon.
